THFES is Tufts University’s chapter of the HFES national organization

Founded in 1996 by David Aurelio, THFES is Tufts University’s chapter of the HFES national organization. HFES is a professional organization addressing a broad spectrum of issues arising in the growing field of human factors and ergonomics. At THFES, we connect Tufts undergraduate students to research, design, and professional opportunities and guide them through their human factors career/course/major decisions at Tufts.

What is Human Factors?

Human Factors Engineering (HFE) is the interdisciplinary field of study of how people interact with different elements in their environment. Be it other people or technology, human factor engineers and engineering psychologist work to understand the capabilities and limitations of human performance. The ultimate goal? Use their knowledge to design and build products, machines, systems, and environments that are safe, comfortable, effective, and easy to use.
